Abstract

The study assesses the quality of water from boreholes and wells in Gipalma Mujara Ward, Mubi South LGA, Adamawa State, Nigeria. The analysis focused on both physical and chemical parameters to determine the water's safety for consumption. Key parameter used included pH meters, turbidity meters, and various reagents. Samples were collected in 750 ml plastic bottles from three boreholes and three wells, and analyzed for temperature, turbidity, color, taste, odor, total dissolved solids (TDS), pH, fluoride, chloride, nitrate, and hardness. Results indicated that the temperature of the water slightly exceeded the WHO guideline of 25°C but was within local standards. Color and turbidity levels were within acceptable limits, while TDS and hardness values exceeded Nigerian standards but were within WHO limits. Fluoride, chloride, and nitrate levels were all within the acceptable ranges of both WHO and Nigerian standards for the wells and boreholes. The pH values were below the recommended range, indicating the need for adjustments. The study concludes that while most parameters meet international standards, some require improvement to meet strict local guidelines. Recommendations include temperature control, turbidity management, TDS and hardness reduction, continuous fluoride monitoring, public education, and regular water quality testing. Adhering to these measures will enhance water safety and quality for the local population
