Abstract

This study was conducted to determine growth and sporulation of mycoflora on stored groundnut ( Arachis hypegaea) different species of fungi were isolated and identified and cultured at room temperature, the research was carried out of the laboratory National Agency food and drugs administration control (NAFDAC) maiduguri Borno state. Groundnut seed were collected from Monday market and the groundnut seed were inoculated on potato Dextrose Agar for the isolation and there after inoculated on 4 four different media which were potato Dextrose Agar, Malt extract Agar, Groundnut extract Agar and sabouraud Dextrose Agar in which the species in fungi identied all grew well on potato Dextrose Agar than any of the medium and densely sporulated on malt extract Agar more than the medium. To isolate dominant mycoflora associated with stored groundnuts, to investigate the effects of storage conditions ( temperature, humidity, and packing) on the growth isolate mycoflora found in groundnut seed and to determine the growth and sporulation of seed mycoflora of groundnut further more the effects of storage conditions, handling practices geographical location on the mycoflora of stored groundnut are not well understood. Therefore, this study aims to be the mycoflora associated with stored groundnuts. Identify the dominant fungal species and determine the factors influencing their growth and impact on groundnut quality and safety, hence Groundnut are a critical source of protein and income for million of people worldwide. Understand the mycoflora affecting stored groundnuts can help ensure a stable food supply and reduce post harvest storage. Further research is needed to develop effect control measures for fungal contamination and mycotoxin production in stored groundnuts this study has demonstrated a high prevalence of the fungi associated with groundnut hence the occurrence and level of infection is more or less similar among all the location
