Abstract

This study examines farmers’ awareness and attitude to Governor Alia's fertilizer distribution programme in Makurdi Local Government Area. It highlights the role of agricultural communication in improving farmers’ knowledge and participation in development programmes. The study investigates the level of awareness, factors influencing awareness, and how these shape farmers’ attitudes and participation. Findings show that farmers are generally aware of the programme and that communication channels such as media, extension workers, and community networks play a major role. The study concludes that awareness and attitude significantly influence participation and recommends improved communication strategies, financial support, and incentive systems to enhance accessibility and effectiveness of fertilizer distribution programmes.
