Abstract

ABSTRACT This project, titled "Isolation and characterization of nitrogen fixing bacteria from agricultural soils” Nitrogen-fixing bacteria play a crucial role in improving soil fertility by converting atmospheric nitrogen into forms usable by plants. This study was aimed at isolating and characterizing nitrogen-fixing bacteria from agricultural farm soils. Soil samples were collected from selected farmlands and subjected to serial dilution and culture on selective media. Morphological and biochemical tests were carried out to identify the bacterial isolates. The results revealed the presence of various nitrogen-fixing bacteria with potential to enhance plant growth. This study highlights the significance of harnessing native microbial resources for sustainable agriculture and recommends further research on the application of these isolates as bio fertilizers.
