Abstract

ABSTRACT Extraction and quantification of the major Alkali metals content of plantain peel and palm head bunch ashes was carries out using standard laboratory methods. The result showed that ashing reduced the quantity of waste of the plantain peel and palm head bunch by 88.54% and 93.62% respectively while the amounts of Na+ and K+ in the samples (plantain peel and palm head bunch ashes) are 0.51ppm and 3.04ppm and 1.71ppm and 14.78ppm respectively. In all, the amount of K+ is given their Na+. this shows that plantain peel and palm head bunch ashes can be good sources of major alkali compounds.
