Abstract

The study is set examine the effect of inquiry teaching method on academic performance and attitude among chemistry student in Katsina metropolis. The study adopted quasi experimental group design. The study used different type of sample procedure which are purpose and convenient sampling. In purposive sampling, elements judged to be typical or representative are chosen from the population for inclusion in the sample, while the convenient technique capture quantitative data on equipment availability, usage frequency, and user satisfaction in selecting sample of the students, in fact classes consist of 80 students for every gender i.e. male and female were drawn using porosities sampling technique. The instruments used for this study is questionnaire title “Chemistry Students’ Engagement Questionnaire (CSTQ)” and chemistry achievement test (CAT). The results obtained from the research have helped to determine how inquiry teaching method have impact on teaching and leaning on chemistry students and how inquiry teaching method have impact on academic performance of chemistry student in Katsina metropolis. Hence the study recommends that inquiry teaching method should be incorporated into the teaching of Chemistry concepts at the secondary school level since it stimulates students to effectively learn and retain the concepts presented to them.
