DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF 2.5KVA INVERTER WITH SOLAR PANEL INSTALLATIONS
Abstract
The increasing demand for sustainable and reliable energy sources in regions with inconsistent power supply, such as Nigeria, has emphasized the need for aIternative energy systems. This project involves the design and construction of a 1.5kVA power inverter integrated with solar panel installations, providing an eco-friendly solution to meet essential energy needs. The inverter system aims to convert DC power generated from solar panels and backup batteries into 220V AC output, capable of powering various household and small industrial devices. By harnessing renewable energy, this project seeks to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, addressing both energy sustainability and environmental concerns.
The design process employed a combination of oscillator circuits, power switching MOSFETs,and a step-up transformer to produce a stable AC output with apure sine wave. The system also includes an automatic changeover mechanism to enable seamless transition between solar power, battery backup, and grid electricity, optimizing energy efficiency and system reliability. Components were sourced based on availability and performance efficiency, with an emphasis on mninimal maintenance requirements. The project followed a structured approach, beginning with breadboard testing, component soldering, and verification, and culminating in full system integration within a venilated, durable casing.
Upon testing, the constructed inverter system met all design specifications, achieving stable 220V AC output at 50Hz under various load condlitions. Key performance indicators included high conversion efficiency, prolonged battery backup time, and effective automatic changeover during power interruptions. The inverter's LCD display provided real-time monitoring of batery status and power output, while protective features, including overvoltage and low battery cut-offs, ensured safe operation. Testing revealed a total battery backup duration of approximately 10 hours, with efficient charging from solar input providing continuous energy supply.
The 1.5kVA solar-powered inverter system offers a reliable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional power sources. This project highlights the potential of renewable energy systems to address electricity challenges in developing regions.By integrating automated controls and protective mechanisms, the inverter system minimizes user dependence and maintenance, making it a sustainable option for households and small businesses. Further development could explore higher capacity designs and expand usability to larger-scale applications, contributing to greater energy independence and sustainability.
