DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A THREE- PHASE ENERGY METERING/ ANALYSIS TABLE FOR NILE UNIVERSITY ELECTRICAL POWER/ MACHINES LAB
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This work presents the design and implementation of a three-phase energy metering and analysis system tailored for the Electrical Power and Machines Laboratory at Nile University of Nigeria. The system comprises a three-phase variable AC power supply capable of delivering 0–450V per phase, and a variable DC power supply with an adjustable range of 0–450V. An AC energy analyzer is integrated into the system to monitor and log key parameters such as line voltages, phase currents, power factor, and real and reactive power across the three phases. For the DC section, a calibrated digital voltmeter provides accurate measurement of voltage levels. The design incorporates safety features including circuit breakers, fuses, and overvoltage protection circuits to ensure safe operation under laboratory conditions. Component-level and no-load functional tests were conducted, confirming voltage range stability and measurement accuracy. The system serves as a versatile platform for experimental analysis and teaching of AC/DC electrical systems, enabling practical exploration of power behavior, load conditions, and energy efficiency principl
