Abstract

ABSTRACT This study investigates the challenges and prospects of local government administrations in Nigeria, focusing on Bauchi Local Government Area, Bauchi State. It aims to identify the obstacles faced by local administrations, examine the effects of financial autonomy and political interference on their effectiveness, and assess the impact of community participation on local government development. Utilizing a simple random sampling technique, data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using SPSS. Findings indicate significant financial constraints, inadequate funding, and corruption, affecting service delivery and infrastructure development. Positive perceptions of financial autonomy and community participation highlight the need for robust financial management, inclusive governance, and improved staff training. Recommendations include enhancing transparency, fostering community engagement, and supporting sustainable development initiatives to promote effective local governance and development in Bauchi Local Government Area.
