THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC EFFECT OF BOKO HARAM INSURGENCY IN M.M.C LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigates the socio-economic effects of the Boko Haram insurgency in the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (M.M.C) of Borno State, Nigeria. The insurgency has significantly disrupted daily life, economy, and social structures in the region. Using a mixed-methods approach involving surveys and interviews with residents, the research identifies key impacts such as increased poverty, loss of livelihoods, destruction of infrastructure, and displacement. The study finds that the ongoing insecurity has led to a decline in education and healthcare services, alongside reduced business activities. The findings aim to inform government policies and humanitarian interventions to rebuild and support affected communities.
