Abstract

The report addresses the repair and maintenance of a faulty 5kVA inverter within the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department. The inverter, vital for reliable power supply, was compromised due to overloading and insufficient protection mechanisms. Maintenance aimed at restoring functionality, preventing future failures, and ensuring long-term efficiency. The repair also introduced an enhanced external protection circuit to safeguard the inverter against electrical anomalies such as over-voltage, short circuits, and overcurrent. A systematic methodology, incorporating modern diagnostics and repair techniques, was employed. The central problem was the damage to the inverter caused by operational stress, including burnt MOSFETs and a malfunctioning control logic board. The absence of adequate overload protection exacerbated these issues. Objectives included identifying and resolving faults, implementing preventive measures, and developing a robust protection circuit. The goal was to ensure the inverter's reliability and extend its operational life through preventive and corrective maintenance strategies. The methodology involved a detailed troubleshooting process, starting with visual inspections and diagnostic testing to identify defective components. Corrective actions included replacing damaged MOSFETs and redesigning the control logic board. An external protection circuit featuring voltage protectors, circuit breakers, and surge protectors was incorporated. Testing under load conditions validated the effectiveness of repairs.
