EFFECT OF TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT ON EMPLOYEE PRODUCTIVITY IN COLLEGE OF EDUCATION KATSINA - ALA
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigates the effect of training and development on employee productivity in the College of Education, Katsina-Ala. The specific objectives include examining the impacts of on-the-job training, off-the-job training, job rotation, and employee orientation on employee productivity. A survey research design was adopted, and data were collected using questionnaires from 213 respondents, comprising academic and non-academic staff. Regression analysis and hypothesis testing revealed significant positive effects of on-the-job training, off-the-job training, and job rotation on employee productivity. However, employee orientation was found to have an insignificant and negative effect. The findings indicate that institutions can enhance employee productivity by investing in functional training and development programs, such as workshops, mentoring, and off-the-job training initiatives. The study concludes that training and development significantly influence productivity and recommends continuous improvements in these programs, as well as better career progression opportunities for trained employees. A response rate of 98.2% was achieved, demonstrating the reliability of the data collected.
