Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the role of transport in disaster management and emergency response. Other objectives were to determine the key factors influencing transportation infrastructure resilience in disaster-prone areas, to identify effective strategies for improving stakeholder coordination in disaster management, to evaluate the potential of adaptive technologies in enhancing transportation disaster management capabilities. In carrying out the study, the researcher made use of both primary and secondary sources of data. The population of the study comprises of Firefighter. However, there are about six hundred and thirtyfive (635) Operational staff in Lagos state firefighting services. Both descriptive and inferential statistics was use for the purpose of data analysis. The study shows how transport is a vital component of disaster management and emergency response, enabling the rapid movement of emergency services, evacuation of at-risk populations, and the delivery of critical supplies. Effective transport systems ensure that emergency personnel and aid reach affected areas quickly, which is essential for saving lives and minimizing damage. The resilience and adaptability of transport infrastructure directly impact the success of response efforts, as damaged or obstructed routes can delay assistance and hinder coordination. In conclusion, one important contribution of transport in disaster management and emergency response is enabling the rapid deployment of emergency services and delivery of critical supplies to affected areas. This swift response capability is essential for saving lives, providing medical aid, food, and water, and ensuring timely evacuation of vulnerable populations, significantly reducing the impact of the disaster.
