MANPOWER TRAINING AND EMPLOYEE’S PRODUCTIVITY IN FIRST BANK PLC, MAKURDI BRANCH
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study examined Manpower Training and Employee’s Productivity in First Bank Plc,
Makurdi Branch. The specific objectives of the study include: Determination of manpower
training policy of First Bank, the nexus between manpower training and employee’s
productivity in First Bank, the factors militating against effective manpower training in First
Bank and possible ways of improving manpower training in order to enhance productivity in
First Bank. The study employed survey design as its methodology, using questionnaire as the
main instrument of data collection. Theoretically, the study adopted human capital as its
framework of analysis. Findings of the study revealed that higher productivity results from the
successful completion of corporate goals and objectives, which is made possible by training.
The effectiveness, efficiency, and motivation of a team are built through training and
manpower development, which also increases workers' self-assurance and respect. In order to
adapt to new technology and other organisational changes, the knowledge and skills of the
workforce are thereby developed. Opportunities for employee promotion to replace departing
employees are also created by training and human resource development. It is regrettable to state that First Bank struggles to conduct regular staff training. Over the years, the bank has
fallen short of providing its workforce with the necessary training to advance their professional
growth. This trend has had a detrimental influence on the efficiency of the bank's staff, which
has led to First Bank's weak income base. The study comes to the conclusion that, with an
objective investigation of the causal variables and the implementation of appropriate
institutional procedures to handle the multi-dimensional difficulties involved, the existing
challenges of manpower training in First Bank are not insurmountable. The study suggests that
First Bank create effective staff development and manpower training programmes for its
employees to raise morale, increase productivity, and make sure that workers' training is undertaken periodically to guarantee they can handle new difficulties.
