EVALUATION OF CASSAVA PEEL FLOUR AS PARTIAL REPLACEMENT OF CEMENT IN CONCRETE
Abstract
The research titled “Evaluation of Cassava Peel Flour, CPF, as Partial Replacement Cement in Concrete investigated the prospect of using cassava peel flour, CPF, in concrete works to partially replace cement with it and its consequent effect on the slump and compressive strength of concrete. The cassava tubers were sourced from cassava tubers sellers in Mubi main market in Mubi North Local Government Area of Adamawa State. The tubers were then peeled to obtain the cassava peels which were grind to flour after thorough drying and sieved to obtain the CPF for the research. The chemical analysis was obtained of which CPF contains Silicon oxide, SiO, 10.50%, Potassium oxide, K₂O, 2.80%, Calcium oxide, CaO, 2.00%, Aluminium oxide, Al2O3, 1.8%, Magnesium qxide, MgO, 1.5% and Iron Oxide, Fe2O3, 1.25%, respectively. The result of workability (slump) indicated a decrease from 51mm to 19 mm for 0% to 20% partial replacement of cement. The result also shows a drastic continual decrease in concrete compressive strength from 22.58N/mm2 to 3.0N/mm2 for 0% to 20% partial replacement of cement. Based on the study and analysis of the results, it observed that CPF decreases workability and compressive strength of concrete.
