Abstract

This study examines the effect of non-financial incentives on workers' productivity in the Nigerian Postal Services (NIPOST), Kaduna. The research was guided by several key questions, including whether staff remuneration is based on an incentive scheme that motivates productivity, the types of financial and non-financial incentives provided and their impacts, and the constraints militating against the NIPOST incentive scheme. Using a sample of thirty-two (32) employees, including both senior and junior staff, primary data was gathered through the administration of questionnaires. Simple percentages were used to analyze the data, which revealed that salary increases are tied to performance evaluations, rewarding workers for exceeding expectations, and that workers receive bonuses for surpassing set production targets. The findings also indicate that non-financial incentives, such as "Employee of the Month" awards, are utilized and displayed on the notice board. Based on these findings, the study concludes that while incentives exist, there is a need for further development. Consequently, it is recommended that the management of NIPOST should establish an ongoing review of relevant on-the-job training and support the professional improvement of staff through re-training and professional examinations to further improve work productivity.
