DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF A REAL-TIME ENERGY MONITORING SYSTEM
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This project presents the “Design and Construction of a Real-Time Energy Monitoring System” aimed at providing accurate, real-time measurement and remote tracking of electrical energy consumption in residential settings. The system utilizes an ESP32 microcontroller as the central processing unit, interfacing with a Current Transformer (CT) sensor for current measurement, and a voltage divider for voltage detection. These analog values are processed to calculate power and energy usage.
To enhance accessibility and user interaction, the system features a 16x2 LCD screen for local display of energy parameters and a GSM communication module (SIM800L) to transmit data to a mobile application for remote monitoring. This allows users to track their power consumption from anywhere, promoting better energy management and cost savings.
The project includes both hardware construction and software development, with the embedded code written in C++ using the Arduino IDE. The complete system is powered via a regulated 5V power supply, ensuring safe and reliable operation.
This energy monitoring system demonstrates a practical solution for tackling energy wastage and supports the global move towards smarter, more efficient energy usage, particularly in line with the development of smart grids and IoT-based home automation.
