DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF A RICE DEHULLING MACHINE
Abstract
This project focuses on the design and fabrication of a rice dehulling machine aimed at improving the efficiency of rice processing while reducing grain breakage and operational costs. Traditional methods of dehulling rice are often labor-intensive, time-consuming, and inefficient, leading to significant losses in both quality and quantity of output. The developed machine addresses these challenges by incorporating a simple, durable, and cost-effective design suitable for small- and medium-scale farmers.
The machine consists of major components such as a hopper, dehulling chamber, shaft, bearings, frame, and a power transmission system. Locally available materials were used in its construction to ensure affordability and ease of maintenance. The working principle is based on friction and abrasion between the rice grains and the dehulling surfaces, which effectively removes the husk without causing excessive damage to the grains.
