EFFECT OF GLASS POWDER AND GROUNDNUT SHELL ASH ON BLACK COTTON SOIL. A CASE STUDY OF NUMAN L.G.A, ADAMAWA STATE
Abstract
ABSTRACT
One of the mass prompt practices of soils is for engineering projects such as the construction of roads, buildings, dams, and so on. Therefore, effect of materials and engineering properties needs to be investigated. This study aims to determine the effect of glass powder and groundnut shell ash on black cotton soil. Such materials are classified into physical and engineering properties. Samples were collected from Numan L.G.A Pits the sample was subdued to the laboratory tests, such as, Atterberg limits, compaction, California Bearing Ratio (CBR), and Moisture content respectively. The average Natural Moisture Content (NMC) of the sample is 18.89mg/m3, The Maximum Dry Density (MDD) is 1.78 and Optimum Moisture Content (OMC) is 15.6. The index analysis involved the liquid and plastic limits determination of Liquid Limit (LL) is 31.00%, Plastic Limit (PL) of 19.63%, and a Plasticity Index (PI) of 11.37%. While, California Bearing Ratio (CBR) results are, sample 1 (100%BCS + 0%GP + 0%GSA) is 23.58, sample 2 (90%BCS + 5%GP + 5%GSA) is 25.50%, sample 3 (80%BCS + 10%GP + 10%GSA) is 27.72%, sample 4 (70%BCS + 15%GP + 15%GSA) is 30.22% and sample 5 (60%BCS + 20%GP + 20%GSA) is 32.62.This shows that effect of glass powder and groundnut shell ash on black cotton soil have made up the requirement for sub-base course.
