EUTHANASIA: A JURISPRUDENTIAL ANALYSIS
Abstract
Euthanasia is one of the major issues that cuts across both medical and legal fields. While the concept has gained significant attention globally, the debate in Nigeria remains relatively new with no clear legal framework regulating its practice. This study adopts a doctrinal approach in analysing euthanasia within the Nigerian legal system. It examines existing laws, cases, and principles relating to the subject. Findings reveal that there is no specific legislation either legalizing or criminalizing euthanasia in Nigeria. The absence of a clear legal framework creates uncertainty regarding end-of-life decisions. The study recommends the enactment of laws to regulate euthanasia, particularly allowing passive euthanasia under strict conditions.
