Abstract

ABSTRACT A growth medium is a liquid or gel designed to support the growth of microorganisms. Recent research has been focused on finding alternatives to gelling agents of media, agar in particular, and media, in general, because of its exorbitant price. The aim of this study was to formulate indicator media using wheat chaff, guava and mango fruits as an alternative to commercial media. Dried samples of Guava, Mango and Wheat chaff were collected, prepared and used ton formulate indicator media for growth of fungi and the growth rate and cultural characteristics was compared with the standard media.
