Abstract

A route survey covering a distance of approximately 5 km was conducted with a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver operating in Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) mode to achieve high positional accuracy and efficiency. The survey aimed to determine the route alignment, and gather detailed topographic data for design and construction planning. It included four main operations: traversing, leveling, cross-sectioning, and detailing. Traversing, to determine the precise horizontal position along the route by measuring the angles and distances between stations. Leveling provided precise elevation data needed to create the longitudinal profile of the route. We carried out crosssectioning at regular intervals and critical locations to capture terrain variations that are essential for earthwork calculations. Detailing involved mapping existing surface features like roads, drains, utilities, vegetation, and structures within the survey corridor. We processed and analyzed field data using appropriate surveying and CAD software. The final deliverables included a detailed route plan, longitudinal profile, cross-sectional drawings of the surveyed area. These outputs provide reliable spatial information that is crucial for route alignment design, volume estimation, and construction planning. The use of GNSS (RTK) technology significantly improved the accuracy, efficiency, and overall quality of the survey compared to traditional surveying methods.
