Abstract

This research work ‘The Role of Media in Conflict Resolution (A Perusal of Liberty Television in Kaduna Communal Crisis)’ aimed to investigate how media handle the reportage of crises in a turbulent society like Kaduna and also to investigate if there is a significant relationship between the environment and media reportage. Relevant literatures were reviewed which shows that mass media have been accused of worsening crises through biased, unfair and irresponsible coverage and reporting. This study is descriptive in nature; therefore, the researcher adopted qualitative survey method. The sample size was determined using Taro Yamane’s formula. Data were gathered through the use of questionnaire from the study area. On hundred and fifty four (154) copies of questionnaires were distributed and collected properly filled while tables were used in the presentation and analysis of data. Descriptive statistic was used to analyze the data collected from the respondents to generate frequencies and percentages. As a result of the analysis, it was discovered that the major cause of conflict in Kaduna is people’s belief such as tradition of the land and religion, it was also found out that majority of the respondents have witnessed one conflict of the other in their ward. It was thereafter recommended that religious leaders should play their role in curbing communal crises in Kaduna and also government is encouraged to put more efforts in curbing communal conflict and do more in Conflict Resolution
