Abstract

Haemorrhage is a global burden and is responsible for the majority of death of trauma who do not reach the hospital and up to 40% of death of those who do. Thus, this study is to seek and determine the possible effect of aqueous leaf extract of Terminalia catappa on haemostatic indices of cyclophosphamide induced immunocompromised Wistar rats. Twenty five (25) male Wistar rats were obtained The experimental rats were randomly divided into five (5) groups. with five animals per group and treated for a period of fourteen (14) days. Group A: NC (normal control) Group C: immune compromised rats treated with immunal (Standard control) Group B: immune compromised rats (induced with cyclophosphamide) without treatment (immune compromised control) Group D: immune compromised rats treated with 100 mg/kg bwt aqueous leaf extract 7. catappa extract (ALETCI) Group E: immune compromised rats with 200 mg/kg bwt aqueous leaf extract 7. catappa extract (ALETC2) All administrations were done orally using orpharyngeal cannula once per day for I4days (2 week). In conclusion the effect of aqueous extract of Terminalia catappa leaf to the experimental animals are manifestation of its haematological possiblity of reversing the damage done by cyclophosphamide induced immune compromised Wistar rats and thus can be used as a therapeutic agent towards saving lives.
