Abstract

Urinary Tract Infection (UTIs) have become in recent years a very severe public health challenge. They are infections caused by a range of pathogens including some pathogenic bacteria. This study dtermined the bacterial pathogens associated with causing UTIs in CRUTECH undergraduate females. Findings from this study revealed that Escherichia coli wsa the principal causative bacteria of UTI (10%) followed by staphylococcus aureus (5%), proteus spp (2%) and K, Pneumonia and (2%). Conclusively, frequent consumption of a particular antibiotic can be a pathway to its resistance by the uropathogens. It is therefore recommended that suspected cases of UTIs should be properly diagnosed and urgent medical treatment provided to stop the further spread of UTI and prevent complications that may result. The study also suggest Ciprofloxacin, Erythromycin and Stretomycin as being efficacious against UTIs.
