EFFECT OF DIETARY INCLUSION OF DRIED DISCARDED CABBAGE LEAVES (DDCL) ON CARCASS CHARACTERISTICS AND ORGAN MEASUREMENTS OF WEANER RABBITS
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study evaluated the effect of dietary inclusion of dried discarded cabbage leaves (DDCL) on carcass characteristics and organ measurements of weaner rabbits. A total of forty-five (45) rabbits aged between 6 and 7 weeks were used for the feeding trial which lasted for ten weeks. The rabbits were randomly divided into five treatment groups with three replicates each.
The experimental diets were formulated with varying inclusion levels of DDCL at 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. Data were collected on carcass characteristics including live weight, slaughter weight, dressed weight, dressing percentage, and organ measurements.
The results showed that there were no significant differences (P>0.05) in most carcass characteristics and organ measurements such as dressing percentage, shoulder, rack, thigh, liver, stomach, lungs, kidney, caecum, and large intestine among the treatment groups. However, significant differences (P
