Abstract

The increasing rate of fire incidents within educational environments highlights the urgent need for efficient, well-equipped fire service facilities. This study presents the design and proposal of a modern fire service station for the Federal Polytechnic Idah, Kogi State, with the goal of enhancing safety, preparedness, and rapid response to emergencies. The research adopts a multidimensional approach, incorporating literature reviews, case studies of existing fire stations, climatic and environmental analyses, as well as user needs assessment. The findings emphasize the importance of integrating functional zoning, sustainable materials, and smart building technologies in fire station design. The proposed facility provides a balance between operational efficiency, staff welfare, and community accessibility, while ensuring compliance with fire safety standards. Ultimately, the project contributes to safeguarding lives and property, strengthening institutional resilience, and setting a model for future fire service infrastructure in academic communities across Nigeria.
