IMPACT OF EMPLOYEE RETENTION ON ORGANISATIONAL PRODUCTIVITY (A CASE STUDY OF SEVEN UP BOTTLING COMPANY, IBADAN, NIGERIA)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigated the effect of employee retention practices on organizational productivity at SevenUp Bottling Company located in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. The research specifically examined how training and development, reward and compensation, and workplace environment influence organizational performance. To achieve these objectives, three research hypotheses were formulated and tested. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study, with the total staff population of the company, numbering 265 employees, forming the target population. Primary data were gathered through the use of structured questionnaires designed to obtain relevant information from the respondents. A total of 265 questionnaires were distributed, out of which 247 were properly completed and returned, while 18 were either incomplete or not returned. The collected data were organized and presented using frequency distribution tables, and the hypotheses were tested using regression analysis through the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20. The results of the analysis indicated that employee retention factors, particularly training and development opportunities, reward and compensation systems, and a conducive working environment, significantly contribute to improved organizational productivity in the company. The study therefore recommends that organizations should strengthen their retention strategies by investing in employee development, implementing fair reward systems, and providing supportive work environments in order to enhance employee commitment and overall organizational performance.
