EVALUATION OF ANTIOXIDANT AND ANTI-INFLAMMATORY POTENTIAL OF TITANIUM NANOPARTICLES SYNTHESISED USING AQEUOUS AERIAL-LEAF EXTRACT OF VACHELLIA SIEBERIANA.
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Nanotechnology is rapidly transforming the fields of medicine and pharmacology, particularly through the development of titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO₂NPs), which possess unique properties that enhance therapeutic applications. This study investigates the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potential of (TiO₂NPs) synthesized via a green method using the aqueous extract of Vachellia sieberiana, a plant known for its rich phytochemical profile and medicinal benefits.
The antioxidant activity of the synthesized TiO₂NPs was evaluated using two radical scavenging assays DPPH and ABTS. In addition to assessing antioxidant properties, the study evaluated the anti inflammatory potential of the TiO₂NPs using the protein denaturation inhibition assay.
The nanoparticles significantly scavenged DPPH and ABTS with an IC50 value of 9.86 µg/ml and 116.6 µg/ml respectively, when compared with the standard (ascorbic acid) with an IC50 value of 202.6 µg/ml. TiO₂NPs also displayed significant inhibition of protein denaturation with an IC50 value of 154.6 µg/ml.
The dual antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of the TiO₂NPs synthesized from Vachellia sieberiana highlight their potential as multifunctional therapeutic agents. This research underscores that TiO₂NPs could be a good contender for a variety of biomedical applications. Future studies, particularly in vivo evaluations, are recommended to explore the broader biomedical applications of these nanoparticles.
