Abstract

Abstract The study examined the effects of ASUU Strike On Students’ Academic Performance among students of Nasarawa State University, Keffi. The research was guided by three research objectives and three research questions. Survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study was hundred (100). A sample size of fif7ty (50) was used based on random sampling technique. Questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. The analysis was presented using tables, frequencies and percentages. Thus, an empirical method of data collection was done through the use of questionnaire. However, this chapter provides us with an avenue to analyze all data received from the respondents through the use of simple percentage for respondent’s demographical data and chi-square statistical tools for the three (3) hypotheses formulated. Based on the chi-square statistical analysis of the three hypotheses for this study, it was discovered that the three null hypotheses were rejected. Hence, the alternate hypotheses were accepted. The researcher also recommends that; Strike action and boycotts school be avoided because of the negative effects on the government, trade unions and most especially students. The trade unions and government should also sit on a round table and discuss the major causal factors of strike action in the Nigerian University so as to stop the elongation of academic session in the University, Federal and state government should endeavour to increase their budgetary allocation to University’s to the UNESCO recommended 26% of their total annual budget. Both union leaders and government representatives should from time to time embark on training to understand the workings of industrial relations.
