Abstract

The protection of trade secrets is crucial for fostering innovation, competition, and business growth as it serves as a foundation for companies to safeguard their confidential information. However, the Nigerian legal framework faces numerous challenges in effectively protecting trade secrets. This research project aims to explore and analyze the specific issues and obstacles faced in safeguarding trade secrets in Nigeria. To achieve this objective, a comprehensive literature review will be conducted, encompassing existing laws and regulations pertaining to trade secret protection in Nigeria. The major challenge anticipated in this study is the issue of inadequate legal frameworks and insufficient awareness and understanding of trade secret protection among businesses. The findings of this research project will contribute to an improved understanding of the current state of trade secret protection in Nigeria and provide recommendations for addressing the challenges at hand. These recommendations may involve legislative amendments to align Nigerian trade secret laws with international best practices, raising awareness among businesses regarding proactive trade secret management, and establishing specialized trade secret courts or procedures to streamline legal proceedings.
