Abstract

ABSTRACT The study assessment of poor drainage system in Nigeria with a view to examining the use of controlling flood in selected areas in Zamfara State. The study investigated the occurrence of flooding, identified the causes of flooding and assessed the effects of flooding in selected areas in Talata Mafara metropolis. 150 copies of questionnaires were randomly distributed to some road users which were the motorist and commuters and the residents of the selected areas in Talata Mafara. Drainage is the natural or artificial removal of a surface's water and sub-surface water from an area with excess of water. The internal drainage of most agricultural soils is good enough to prevent severe water logging (anaerobic conditions that harm root growth), but many soils need artificial drainage to improve production or to manage water supplies.
