ACCESSING GROUNDWATER NITRATE POLLUTION IN OGBOMOSHO NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA (SABO)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study assesses groundwater nitrate pollution in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area, Oyo State, Nigeria. Groundwater serves as a major source of drinking water, especially in developing regions, but is increasingly threatened by contamination from both natural and anthropogenic sources. Fifteen water samples (seven from wells and eight from boreholes) were collected and analyzed, with emphasis on conductivity as an indicator of dissolved ions, including nitrates. The study highlights the presence of nitrate contamination risks due to agricultural practices, waste disposal, and other environmental factors. Findings indicate variations in groundwater quality, suggesting potential health risks if consumed untreated. The study recommends proper groundwater management, monitoring, and pollution control measures to ensure safe drinking water.
