Abstract

The study centered on the Effect of Entrepreneurship Education on National Development in Damaturu. It is aimed to achieve the following objectives; To examine the effect of entrepreneurship education on national development in the study area, to examine the roles that entrepreneurship education play in the development of small scale businesses, Also, to evaluate the challenges entrepreneurs encounter in the study area and to determine the role of government, in the development of entrepreneurship education in the state. The researcher used survey research design. A total of 20 questionnaires were issued to 20 small scale businesses and all were completed and returned. The findings showed that Most of the entrepreneurs in the state finance their businesses through personal savings; only a few of them could have access to loan facilities. Majority of them did not receive any form of assistance from government be it financial or material as well as technical assistance. With the lack of financial or material support from government expansion became very difficult. The findings also revealed that entrepreneurship education has a positive impact on the economic development of Yobe state. The research recommended that the government should strive to release up to 26% of their annual budget for education as suggested by UNESCO. This enhances the provision of necessary materials, equipment and personnel needed for full implementation of entrepreneurship education in Nigeria. A new and workable education policy should be provided that favour the smooth implementation of entrepreneurship education at all levels of education. Government should ensure that there are adequate provision of materials, equipment and facilities for proper teaching of entrepreneurship skills in schools.
