Abstract

The study was carried out to evaluate the antibacterial activity of Cola nitida and Cola Accuminata against some bacterial organisms Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Enterobacter species. The results of the zones of inhibition observed when treated with different concentration of Cola nitida ranged from 6-18mm. the results of the organisms treated with Cola accuminata revealed zones of growth inhibition ranging from 0-14mm. however the standard antibiotics showed higher zones of growth inhibition compared to the two Cola species. This study suggest that the extract of Cola nitida and Cola accuminata can be used for the treatment of infection caused by bacteria.
