IMPACT OF MOTIVATION ON WORKERS PERFORMANCE (A STUDY OF ABIA STATE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigates the impact of motivation on workers’ performance with a specific focus on the Abia State Civil Service Commission. Motivation remains a critical factor in determining employee productivity, efficiency, and commitment in both public and private organizations. However, in many government institutions, inadequate motivation has resulted in poor performance, low morale, and inefficiency.
The study adopts a descriptive research design and utilizes both primary and secondary data. Questionnaires were distributed among selected staff of the commission to gather firsthand information on motivational practices and their influence on job performance. Findings reveal that both financial incentives such as salaries, bonuses, and allowances, as well as non-financial factors like recognition, promotion, and conducive work environments, significantly affect workers’ performance.
The study concludes that motivation plays a vital role in enhancing productivity and organizational effectiveness. It recommends that the Abia State Civil Service Commission should improve its motivational strategies to foster better employee performance and satisfaction.
