Abstract

ABSTRACT This study examines the history of General Hospital Bajoga between 1981 and 2000, focusing on its establishment, growth, and role in healthcare delivery in Funakaye Local Government Area of present-day Gombe State. The hospital was established by the Bauchi State Government to address the increasing health needs of the population and the limitations of existing health facilities. The study employs a historical research method, using oral interviews, hospital records, government reports, and relevant literature. The research highlights the administrative structure of the hospital, the services it provided, and the major challenges it faced, including inadequate funding, shortage of trained personnel, and infrastructural problems. Despite these challenges, General Hospital Bajoga contributed significantly to improving access to modern medical care, controlling common diseases, and enhancing the overall health and socio-economic well-being of the community. The study concludes that the hospital played a vital role in the development of healthcare services in Funakaye and remains an important institution in the area’s medical history.
