Abstract

This study looked at how cable television and Western media affect the lifestyle, behavior, and culture of students in the University of Delta, Agbor. The research was done because many students now seem to prefer Western ways of dressing, speaking, and behaving, which could affect our traditional culture. A questionnaire was used to collect information from 350 students across different faculties and departments. The findings showed that most students watch Western programs regularly and are influenced by what they see. Many said cable TV affects how they dress, talk, and interact with others. Some students also admire and copy Western celebrities. However, even though Western media has a strong influence, many students still feel proud of their Nigerian culture and have not completely abandoned traditional values. In conclusion, cable television has both positive and negative effects — it helps students learn about the world but also challenges our cultural values. The study suggests that while students enjoy Western content, they still hold on to their Nigerian identity.
