Abstract

This study presents the design and simulation of secure wireless network protocols using MATLAB to protect wireless communications from common cyber threats, including eavesdropping, man-in-the-middle (MITM), and replay attacks. Security mechanisms such as AES encryption, HMAC authentication, and timestamp-based replay protection were implemented and evaluated using key performance metrics: Successful Communication Rate (SCR) and Attack Detection Rate (ADR). Simulation results revealed that without security protocols, the network achieved a 100% SCR, as all packets including malicious ones were accepted, while the ADR remained at 0%, indicating total vulnerability. When security protocols were applied, the SCR dropped to approximately 70%, reflecting the rejection of malicious packets in line with the 30% attack probability, while the ADR reached 100%, confirming that all malicious activities were successfully detected, despite a MATLAB visualization discrepancy showing 40%. The results demonstrate the trade-off between communication efficiency and security, where implementing robust protocols reduces throughput slightly but ensures network confidentiality, integrity, and authenticity. This study concludes that adopting strong wireless security protocols is essential for building reliable and resilient modern wireless communication systems.
