PERFORMANCE AND QUALITIES OF FRESH EGGS FROM HENS FED AQUEOUS LEAF EXTRACT OF SIDA ACUTA SUPPLEMENTED DIETS
Abstract
The study evaluated performance and qualities of fresh eggs from hens fed aqueous leaf extract of Sida acuta supplemented diets. A total of One hundred and twelve (112) ISA Brown points of lay birds of 20 weeks of age were obtained from a reputable farm. The birds (at 20% daily egg production) were randomly distributed into 7 treatment groups of 4 replicates per groups.
Seven experimental diets were formulated for the study. Basal diet served as the control. Basal diets supplemented respectively with 2 and 4ml of 100g/L of aqueous leaf extracts Sida acuta were tagged T1 and T2. Basal diets supplemented respectively with 2 and 4ml of 125g/L of aqueous leaf extracts of Sida acuta were tagged T3 and T4. Basal diets supplemented respectively with 2 and 4ml of 150g/L of aqueous leaf extracts of Sida acuta were tagged T5 and T6. Data collected on laying performance, egg weight loss, egg qualities of fresh eggs were analyzed using One-Way Analysis of Variance of SAS (2003) software package. Dietary treatment did not significantly influence laying performance of hens.
