PREVALENCE OF SALMONELLA TYPHI AMONG PATIENT ATTENDING STATE SPECIALIST HOSPITAL, MAIDUGURI
Abstract
ABSTRACTS
The prevalence of Salmonella Typhi varies across different regions and populations. In General Hospital, a study found that 80% of patients with suspected typhoid fever tested positive for Salmonella Typhi. In another study conducted, the prevalence of Salmonella Typhi and paratyphi A, B, and C was investigated among patients attending hospitals. The results showed that; 43.3% of males and 39.5% of females were positive for Salmonella Typhi and paratyphi A, B, and C. Higher prevalence rates were recorded among patients within the 13-24 (45.9%) and 25-46 (42.9%) age ranges. Students/pupils had the highest antibody titers* (68.2%) among different occupational groups. These studies highlight the significant prevalence of Salmonella Typhi in certain regions and populations, emphasizing the need for effective prevention and control measures.
