EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE OF SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL PHYSICS STUDENTS IN MKPAT ENIN LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, AKWA IBOM STATE
Abstract
This study investigated the Emotional Intelligence of senior secondary school Physics students in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. Three research questions were used for the study. The design for the study was the survey research design. The population of the study was Nine-hundred and Sixty-two (962) SS2 Physics students and a sample size of hundred Physics students was obtained from Five Schools randomly selected from Sixteen public secondary schools in the study Area. The Researcher make instrument titled ‘Influence of Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire which consisted of Thirty (30) Items bults in three clusters to address the three research questions used for the study. The questionnaire was validated by three experts in department of Sciences Education, Faculty of Education, Akwa Ibom State University. The reliability of instrument was determined using Cronbach’s alpha reliability test. A reliability coefficient of 0.70 was obtained and considered high enough to put the instrument to use for data collection. The data generated from the duly completed and retrieved instrument were analyze using Mean and Standard Deviation. Result showed that there is a self-awareness of senior secondary school Physics students in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area. However, there was low Self-regulations and High Self-motivation on result, it was recommended among others that teachers should treat students equally without discrimination so as not to damage their self-esteem.
