Abstract

ABSTRACT Authenticated inflorescences (voucher UBH-E444) were air-dried, milled, and extracted via cold maceration to preserve heat-sensitive compounds. The filtrate was concentrated at 50 °C and stored at 4 °C. Antioxidant activity was assessed using the ferric reducing power (FRP) assay, where the sample’s ability to reduce ferricyanide [Fe³⁺(CN)₆]³⁻ to ferrocyanide [Fe²⁺(CN)₆]⁴⁻ and form a Prussian blue complex (absorbance at 700 nm) was measured. Anti-inflammatory potential was determined using the antiproteinase assay, which evaluates inhibition of trypsin-mediated casein hydrolysis, a mechanism akin to protease inhibition by tannins or enzyme modulation by NSAIDs.The extract displayed a concentration-dependent increase in ferric reducing power, with absorbance rising from 0.23 ± 0.01 to 0.66 ± 0.00 at 1.00–3.50 mg/mL (p
