Abstract

Gupta (2002) looked at competencies generally as knowledge, skill, attitudes, values, motivations and beliefs people need in order to be successful in a job. It could be necessary for the future which manifests in future activities (Kaitane, 2006). Fish farmers need new competencies to cope with all changes which make it necessary to always redefine their effectiveness in production. It is therefore pertinent to ascertain the competency needs for fish farming among fish farmers for effective planning to bridge any identified gap through quality educational programme for self-reliance.
