EMERGING HI-TECH RESOURCES FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING IN OFFICE TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT OF FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC IDAH, KOGI STATE
Abstract
This work is designed to examine hi-tech resources for teaching and learning in Office Technology and Management, Federal Polytechnic Idah, Kogi State. To guide the study, four purposes, four research questions, and two hypotheses were formulated. The instrument of data collection was questionnaire. Data collected and analyzed where driven from the four research questions posed. The population for this study comprises of 188 lecturers and students. The main instrument used for data collection was structure 5-point rating scale questionnaire. Data collected was analyzed using frequency table, mean statistics and t-test analysis. The analysis revealed that various AI resources are used in teaching and learning in the OTM department. These include AI-powered tools such as virtual assistants, plagiarism detection software, transcription tools, language translation aids, and automated assessment systems; cloud computing resources such as Google Drive, OneDrive, Moodle, and Microsoft Teams are widely used, supporting academic communication, storage, and project management; IoT tools are increasingly integrated into the classroom environment. Smart boards, wearable devices, and smart labs are being used to enhance practical training and interactive learning; digital collaboration tools recorded the highest mean scores across all categories, showing widespread use of platforms like Google Docs, Zoom, WhatsApp, and Miro for teamwork, discussions, and communication between students and lecturers. Furthermore, the study finds no significant difference in the responses of male and female respondents regarding the artificial intelligence resources for teaching and learning in OTM; the study also finds no significant difference in the responses of male and female respondents regarding cloud computing resources for teaching and learning in OTM. Based on the research findings, the researcher recommends that the institution should organize regular training workshops for lecturers and students to improve their digital competence in using AI, IoT, and cloud-based tools effectively. The management of Federal Polytechnic Idah should also invest more in upgrading digital infrastructure such as smart classrooms, stable internet connectivity, and modern computing devices to support the integration of hi-tech resources.
