DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A FARM MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM
Abstract
ABSTRACT
In the agricultural sector, farmers often face difficulties in gaining timely access to markets and buyers for their produce. These challenges contribute to post-harvest losses, low income, and reduced efficiency in agricultural trade. Farmers and buyers go through stress in product marketing, price negotiation, and communication, which often leads to delays, poor sales, and wastage of farm goods. The overall aim of this project is to design and implement an Online Farm Information Management System (OFIMS) that enables farmers to list their agricultural products, while buyers can search, filter, and contact sellers directly to optimize the trading process. Agricultural produce is perishable and requires prompt market access to avoid losses. Without timely sales, farmers often settle for low prices or lose part of their harvest. The proposed system will be developed using PHP as the server-side scripting language, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the interface design, Apache as the web server, and MySQL as the database. This is to ensure that the application is robust, cost-effective, user-friendly, and able to run on different platforms. Users will be able to manage their product listings, view market information, and initiate direct communication between buyers and sellers.
