Abstract

ABSTRACT Smallholder farmers in Nigeria face persistent challenges in accessing reliable markets, resulting in reduced profits, post-harvest wastage, and limited consumer access to fresh produce. The Community Based Agricultural Marketplace (CBAM) was developed as a web-based solution to bridge this gap by directly linking farmers with consumers and retailers. Designed using a three-tier architecture HTML/CSS for the front end, PHP for business logic, and MySQL for data storage, the system supports user registration, product management, booking, and reporting functions. Employing the Prototyping Model of the Software Development Life Cycle, the platform underwent iterative development with active user feedback. Evaluation through functional, integration, and user acceptance testing confirmed its reliability, ease of use, and effectiveness in improving transaction speed, market reach, and record accuracy. Community Based Agricultural Marketplace (CBAM) demonstrates the potential of technology-driven agricultural platforms to enhance transparency, promote fair trade, and strengthen food security, with future scalability and mobile integration offering pathways for wider adoption.
