BACTERIA CONTAMINANTS AND ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE PATTERN OF ORGANISMS ISOLATED FROM SOME HERBAL REMEDIES SOLD IN ABA, ABIA STATE
Abstract
The study showed that majority of the bacteria isolated from the ten different antibiotics were gram s:tives and it shows that some of the gram positives bacteria that were isolated are Streptococcus species, Staphylococcus species, and Bacillus species while gram negatives were Proteus species Escherichia coil. Biochemical test were carried out to identify the gram positive and gram negative organisms. The total heterotrophic counts of the samples isolated shows that the samples paindigo has the highest total viable counts of 2.1 x 102 followed by Jalin corrective which is 1.6 x = and baby oku, panacin syrup and Terminator has the lowest total viable counts of 1.0 x 102. total fungal count of the samples has the highest counts on Bakenida 2.3 x 102 while the lowest at 1960 herbal 1.0 102. The frequency of isolates of fungi and bacterial from the herbal mixture the highest frequency on Proteus mirabiis (11) while the least was at Streptococcus pyogens Escherichia coil which has (6). The percentage prevalence ranges from 24 % at Proteus i1is and the lowest was at (13 %) on Streptococcus pyogenus and Escherichia coil. Out of the 10) antibiotics samples used, Amoxicillin shows more resistance than all the antibiotic used other antibiotics are susceptible.
