Abstract

Using Amma Darko's Facelessand Beyond the Horizon, this study focuses on the problem of neglect and sexual abuse of women in African contextual society. Beyond the Horizon portrays the struggles experienced by African women who migrate to Europe, while Faceless examines the experiences of women from the African continent. The framework used in this study to reexamine and contrast how women and men are treated in society is based on African feminist theory. This theory assesses whether or not women have received fair treatment in society by taking into account issues of bias, prejudice, and discrimination against women and, implicitly, the girl child. Both works act as a scathing satire and exposes society's animosity against girls.
