DESIGN OF TRAFFIC SIGNAL CONTROL (CASE STUDY OF BARKIN KURA JUNCTION ALONG RAN ROAD)
Abstract
Traffic control device are electronically controlled traffic devices that controls the movement of competitive traffic at intersection which minimizes delay and accidents and gives considerations to pedestrians. In respect to these facts, this work is aimed at designing a traffic control signal at Barkin Kura Junction along Ran road which controls traffic from Jos, Biu, Gombe, Adamawa, Abuja, Nasarawa State. In achieving these objectives of effective traffic control system, a manual of traffic volume count was used due to its availability of material, an approximate cycle length method was adopted with regards to the phasing at the junction, which gives a cycle length of 170 seconds and a signal timing design which gives the following timing of phase 1= 58 sec, phase 2 = 58 sec, phase 3= 58 sec, for Green timing
phase 1= 3 sec, phase 2= 3 sec, phase 3= 3 sec for amber and phase 1= 114 sec, phase 2= 56 sec, phase 3= 112 sec Red respectively. After diligent traffic volume studies and traffic volume forecast for the next ten (10) years.
Phase 1 SB 58 sec
Phase 2 NB 58 sec
Phase 3 WB 58 sec
